The Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica is one of the true gems of the world, which is why Shades of Yoga has chosen to take its yoga teacher training program there. Replete with natural beauty, exciting wild life and outdoor activities aplenty you’ll never be short of something fun to do on your days off. To get you started we’ve compiled a list of fun stuff to do while you’re training in the Osa Peninsula at the beautiful Iguana Lodge:
Check out the wildlife. The Osa Peninsula is home to more than half of the species of wildlife that call Costa Rica home. That means there’s lots to see! One of the best ways to do this is by visiting the Corcovado National Park; the largest national park in Costa Rica with ecological variety like nowhere else – home to the endangered Baird’s tapir, harpy eagles, American crocodiles, spectacled caimans, bull sharks, jaguars, ocelots, puma, monkies, sloths, anteaters and more. It is open for day trips, and even overnight visits.
Not too far from the Peninsula is the Nauyaca Waterfalls, comprising two waterfalls; one, a forty-five meter high free fall waterfall, the other, a twenty-meter high tiered waterfall with a six meter deep one-thousand-square-meter pool at the bottom. Here you’ll find opportunities for swimming, jumping, climbing and hiking – a perfect day trip when you’ve got the day free!
Now, if chocolate is your thing then a visit to an organic cocoa farm, like Finca Kobo, is in order! See how cacao is grown, learn about the manufacturing process, how it’s marketed, its history as well as how it is made and consumed…of course no tour would be complete without a tasting so think chocolate fondue with fresh fruit and home made banana bread. Mmmm!
Learn to surf. There are some awesome surf breaks on the Costa Rican coast line. Try Cabo Matapalo for private or group surfing lessons.
Finally, make sure you don’t leave the Osa Peninsula without snorkeling first. About 16km off the coast of Osa Peninsula is Caño Island with white sand beaches (perfect for relaxing on) and some impressive coral reefs for exploring. With great visibility you’re likely to spot parrotfish, surgeon fish, snapper, puffers, eels and even barracudas, turtles and manta rays.
Of course, if you’d like a hand with organizing your activities Iguana Lodge’s very capable team have oodles of experience and are more than willing to help!
